Wisdom Teeth

A pair of latex gloves
Pulled the wisdom
From my jaws,
Leaving me with
Nothing but
Bloody gums and
Blood-stained gauze.

Bruises on my face,
Swollen cheeks
That ache;
At least the stitches
Will dissolve,
But ice packs
Are no help at all.

Numb lower lip,
Tongue that
Barely tastes;
Only soft foods allowed,
Nothing spicy or acidic
Else the pain
May be worse.

The wisdom I had
Never known
Is forever lost,
Now the stories
Of my elders
Are all
That I have got.
